Gorropu Canyon Tickets, Opening Hours and Season

Gorropu Canyon tickets cost €6 for adults and €4 for ages 6-17, cash only at the gorge entrance. Opening hours, the season, and hikes that include entry.

Updated October 2026

A Gorropu Canyon ticket costs €6 for adults (18 and over) and €4 for ages 6 to 17. You pay in cash at the ticket office at the entrance to the gorge, and you cannot book it ahead. Entry starts at 10:00, and the gorge is visitable from mid-March to mid-November. The catch is where the ticket office stands: at the mouth of the gorge, at the end of a walk of one to two hours. So the cash has to come down the trail with you, and the mid-afternoon last entry is really a deadline for leaving the trailhead. The simplest way round both is a guided hike with the ticket in the price, and Escursì’s day from Cala Gonone is one.

Three things about paying catch people out.

  • Cash only. There is no card payment at the gorge. Bring the exact amount if you can.
  • No advance booking. The ticket is not sold online or in Dorgali. It is sold only at the information point and ticket office at the entrance to the canyon.
  • The office is at the gorge, not the car park. Whether you start at the Genna Silana pass or the Sa Barva bridge, you walk to the gorge first and pay when you get there.

The gorge is run by a concessionaire based in Urzulei, which also sells off-road transfers from the Campo Base on the SS125 and a return transfer to the parking, bookable during opening hours. Our sources give no prices for those transfers, so ask at the ticket office. For questions on the day, the concessionaire answers on +39 328 897 6563 and at info@gorropu.info.

What are the opening hours of Gorropu Canyon?

The gorge opens every day of the season, with entry from 10:00. The closing time depends on which of the concessionaire’s own pages you read. The English page gives visits until 16:30, with everyone out by 17:00. The Italian page gives access until 15:30, with everyone out by 16:00. So: entry from 10:00, last entry mid-afternoon (15:30 or 16:30 depending on the posted season), and everyone out by 16:00 to 17:00.

Plan on the earlier time and check on the day. Then work back from it. The walk down from Genna Silana takes about an hour, and the walk in from the Sa Barva bridge about two. To be sure of a 15:30 last entry from the bridge, set off before 13:30. Remember the way back too: the climb up to Genna Silana takes about two hours, and the days shorten through the autumn. The Gorropu Canyon map shows both trailheads and the distances, measured along the trail.

When is Gorropu Canyon open? The season

The gorge is visitable from mid-March to mid-November. Visits outside those months are discouraged, for three reasons: rockfall in bad weather, short days, and services closed. On 26 October 2026, no dates had been published for 2027.

End of the 2026 season, or spring 2027?

On 26 October 2026 the gorge is in the last weeks of its season, which runs to mid-November. The guided hikes thin out at the same time. These are the first open dates on each listing, read on 26 October 2026:

If you are in Sardinia in the first half of November 2026, go on a dry day, start early, and check the weather after any storm. If you are planning for 2027, the gorge season starts in mid-March, though the concessionaire had not published 2027 dates by 26 October 2026. The first 2027 guided dates above start from 3 April 2027.

The €6 itself is small. What the included ticket saves you is arriving at the gorge mouth after a two-hour walk with no cash. Escursì’s Cala Gonone day, from €83.50 a person (checked October 2026), also covers the 4x4 to the start of the trail and a lunch of local products, and it is rated 4.8 from 76 reviews. Jebel Sardinia’s hike starts lower, at €57 (checked October 2026), but you add €6 for the ticket and bring your own packed lunch. The guided hikes compared page sets out routes, lunches and pickups side by side.

Paying at the gate on your own

Going without a guide is entirely possible on the first stretch of the gorge. Drive to the Genna Silana pass on the SS125 or to the Sa Barva bridge on the Dorgali side, walk to the gorge, and pay the €6 in cash at the ticket office. Inside, the first stretch is walkable. Beyond it, the bed fills with huge boulders, and those are for experienced scramblers or for going with a guide. The concessionaire offers visits at different levels, with or without a guide, but does not publish where a guide becomes necessary, so ask at the ticket office before you go further. The Gorropu Canyon difficulty guide covers what each stretch asks of you.

If you are basing yourself on the coast for the hike and the boat trips, our guide to where to stay in Cala Gonone covers the harbour village, 6.9 km by road from Dorgali.
