How a Cala Gonone Dinghy Day Works

Meet the skipper at the harbour, pay the fee in cash, then a day of coves and swims.

  1. Meet the Skipper at the Waterside

The day starts in the morning at the harbour in Cala Gonone. Bring cash for the environmental contribution of €5.50 a person, paid on site.

  2. South Along the Coast

A dinghy with an inflatable awning and up to 12 people runs along the cliffs, past sea caves and coves; where conditions are safe, you can swim inside one of the caves.

  3. Two or Three Stops

The skipper anchors at two or three beaches or swim spots chosen on the day among Cala Mariolu, Cala Biriala, Cala Luna, Cala Sisine and Cala dei Gabbiani, with the Piscine di Venere and Cala Goloritzé near the arch.

  4. Back in the Afternoon

About seven hours in all. Lunch is not included: bring food, water, a towel and sunscreen. At the beach stops you go ashore; you cannot stay on board.

The Comparison

Which Boat from Cala Gonone

Small dinghy, big boat, sailing boat or your own: what each is like, what it costs, and when it runs.

Cala Gonone is the harbour for the northern half of the Gulf of Orosei, and a boat trip from it comes in four kinds: a small dinghy with a skipper, a large motorboat, a sailing boat, or a dinghy you drive yourself. For most people the small dinghy is the right day: it lands at the coves, swims at the caves and keeps the group to 12. The boat consortium’s Gulf of Orosei Dinghy Cruise with Swim Stops is rated 4.8 from 802 reviews and costs from €70 a person (checked October 2026), plus €5.50 in cash. Its season has ended for 2026; its first 2027 date is 15 April 2027.

A small dinghy with a skipper gets you closest to this coast. The skipper chooses two or three stops by the sea and the crowds, explains the coast as you go and, on calm days, takes you into the sea caves to swim. Escursì runs its own dinghy day and a version with the caves (4.8 from 135 reviews) if the consortium’s boat is full.

A large motorboat is cheaper and easier with children: the consortium’s cruise leaves between 9:00 and 12:00, carries an audio guide and lands at three beaches, usually Cala Luna, Cala Mariolu and Cala Sisine, with a photo stop off Cala Goloritzé.

A vintage sailing boat, Agostino Charter’s 23-metre motorsailer, leaves at 10:15 and is back around 18:00, for about €190; rated 4.9 from 234 reviews, it runs from 1 June 2027.

A boat you drive yourself needs no licence for the 5-metre dinghy: up to 6 people, eight hours, fuel paid on return, from €140 for the boat. The rules for landing are the same as for everyone, and boats may not land at Cala Goloritzé. For the general rules on licence-free rental across the island, sardiniaprivateboattour.com covers what you can rent without a licence and where you can and cannot land.

What it costs on top

Every boat from Cala Gonone adds a municipal environmental contribution, paid in cash before departure: €5.50 a person on the consortium’s dinghy and cruise boat. Escursì’s dinghy lists a landing fee of €2 to €8 depending on the beaches. Lunch is not included on any of the day boats, and the Bue Marino cave is a separate ticket (cave tickets). Parking in the village costs €6 a day in April, May, September and October; every summer, from 1 June to 15 September, there is free parking at the entrance to the town, with a small train or shuttle down to the harbour.

When the boats run

The boat consortium’s 2026 season ran from 27 March to 31 October, with daily service from Easter to All Saints and the full summer timetable from June to September. When we checked on 26 October 2026, the large cruise boat and Escursì’s dinghy still had dates (27 and 28 October 2026), and the self-drive rental on 1 November 2026. For 2027, expect the first boats around Easter, 28 March 2027; the consortium’s dinghy cruise starts on 15 April 2027 and the sailing boat on 1 June 2027.

Cala Gonone as a base

Cala Gonone is a small resort on the sea below Dorgali, 6.9 km by road, with the harbour at its centre. It is the obvious base for this trip: the boats leave from the harbour, and the Escursì Gorropu hike picks up here too.

Map of Cala Gonone on the coast and Dorgali inland, with the road between them and Cala Fuili to the south
Cala Gonone, the harbour for the boat trips, 6.9 km by road from Dorgali; Cala Fuili, the start of the coastal path to Cala Luna, is just to the south. Distance measured along the road.

The where-to-stay guide compares Cala Gonone with Dorgali, Orosei and Santa Maria Navarrese. For a day on the water with a specific cove in mind, see the Cala Goloritzé boat trip or the Cala Luna half-day.
